Ahmad BaBa – Unknown Reverberations
Unknown Reverberations أصداء مجهولة ” is a visual per(form)ance art in a form of a promenade, based on a post migrational perspective on Queerness in relation to Arab* Identity(s). Ahmad BَaBَa will take the audience through a journey between different temporal and spatiel dimensions of “queer” existence. : an invisible past, incorporating linguistic, social, cultural, and religious elements on erotic, sexual and “non-normative” discourses from classical Arab* manuscripts. Into a distorted present that challenge the hegemony of Western narratives about Arabo-Islamic sexual and gender identities, asking why are we expected to identify with a “queerness” that we had no power in creating? Towards imagining a utopic future that holds more questions than offer answers.
Ahmad BaBa is a Lebanese visual and performative artist based in Berlin whose work is rooted in critical interdisciplinarity and anti-oppressive practices. Ahmad has experience in musical arts and is currently studying dance and movement therapy (master’s) with a focus on the development of physical, artistic and therapeutic processes.
His visualizations approach identity from a critical and collective archival perspective that revolves around an understanding of queerness in relation to a multi-layered Arab* Muslim identity(s).
