Ana Gabelaia (GE) / CURATOR’s Talk
Ana Gabelaia is a Georgian curator who arrived from Tbilisi for a residency research stay. The purpose of the bilateral exchange on which she’s participating together with Erik Vilím is to bring and present Slovak art scene to Georgian audience and vice versa. Last few weeks she spent exploring the contemporary art scene by meeting local artists and curators, visiting different galleries and art organizations. The outcome of the residency will be a group exhibition presented in the Silk Museum Tbilisi in 2020. The concept of the exhibition and the potential artists are still subject of the research, but before her return to Georgia, Ana will host a curator’s talk where she will present the draft of the project and share the residency experience in Košice.
Ana Gabelaia (*1991) received masters degree at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts at the Department of the Contemporary Art Theory. In 2014 she was a founding member of Curators Lab. and in the frames of the large-scale research project – Video Art Lab. she co-organised the exhibition and publication project aimed at promoting the phenomenon of the moving image. In the same year, together with Irene Grillo, she prepared the exhibition Echelot within the program AIR BINZ39 Foundation in Zurich. After coming back to Georgia, she curated 2015’s edition of the International Festival of Contemporary Art in Honor of The Zdanevich Brothers. From 2016 onwards she works as a curator at Propaganda.network. In her portfolio, you will find many solo and group exhibitions which she created together with freelance professional artists and institutions.
The residency is supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council. The residency is also supported by Creative Industry Košice. The residency program is organized in cooperation with the State Silk Museum in Tbilisi and East Slovak Gallery in Košice.
