We invite you to our fall edition of Meet & Greet, a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with artists in our community.

The last Meet  & Greet event of this year will feature a trio of artists from Hungary – Eva Bubla and the artistic duo Katalin Kortmann-Járay and Karina Mendreczky.

EVA BUBLA (HU)  is an artist, activist, researcher, and independent curator. Her work has been centered around current ecological and social concerns. At the boundaries of art and science, her projects aim to map, perceive, interpret, and as such (re)connect audiences to the local ecosystem. She is keen on working together with local communities and other sectors; these forms of interactions greatly define the format and medium she works with. Her solo and collaborative projects have addressed issues such as the role of urban green areas, the challenges of farming, air, water or plastic pollution, the ecological needs and risks of freshwaters, and connected human activities by offering relevant social discourse, new perspectives or future imaginations.

KATALIN KORTMANN-JÁRAY and KARINA MENDRECZKY (HU) have been collaborating closely since 2019, creating large-scale, walk-through installations—spatial collages—made up of diverse elements. In their work, they combine various techniques and materials such as textiles, photographs, and sculptures crafted from iron, concrete, and clay, to construct metaphorically fragile spaces. By drawing parallels between contemporary animistic perspectives, rooted in the ecological crisis, and their historical and cultural counterparts, they aim to engage with collective memory. Their conceptual starting points often involve well-known texts like poems, rhymes, or even song lyrics. These narratives blend the symbolism of fairy tales, quasi-religious motifs, and mysticism.

We look forward to seeing you!

The residency program is supported using public funding by the Slovak Art Council. The Slovak Art Council is the main partner of this project. The project is also supported by Mesto Košice.
