Michaela Knížová (SK)

Michaela Knížová is student of New Media on Faculty of Fine Arts in Košice. She works with photography, performance and video art.

“I work mostly with myself, with my personality and my body. I think that through self-portrait I could express my artistic intentions. My topics often related to women. Some photos are full with the symbolism of the classic fairy tale. I use sometimes traditional native folk costume in my photography, videos or performances.”

When in residence in Kharkov, Ukraine, she left the topic of self-portrait. She took advantage of the atmosphere of places and spaces that she found or where she lived and the people she met by chance. The photographs create fictional stories of women, which could happen and leave some trace on the interiors of the city. The project, “Time to forget the colour of my eyes” is kind of romantic and sentimental, like some people’s memories. It is also mysterious, melancholic and gloomy, as if at certain moments it connects life with death, the present with the past.

This residency was part of our cooperation with Kharkov City Art Gallery.

Michaela Knížová je študentkou Nových médií Fakulty Výtvarného Umenia v Košiciach. Pracuje s fotografiou, vystúpeniami a video umením.

„Pracujem najčastejšie sama so sebou, s mojou osobnosťou a mojím telom. Myslím si, že prostredníctvom sebaportrétovania môžem vyjadriť moje vlastné umelecké úmysly. Niektoré fotografiu sú plné symbolizmu, ktorý som prevzala z klasickej rozprávky. Niekedy pri tvorení a vo svojich dielach používam tradičný národný kroj.“

Avšak počas svojej rezidencie v Charkove na Ukrajine túto tému obišla. Využila príležitosť, ktorú ponúkala atmosféra miest a priestorov, ktoré našla, v ktorých sa pohybovala alebo kde žila, a taktiež ľudí, ktorých stretla. Jej fotografie vytvárajú fiktívne príbehy žien, ktoré sa mohli, no nemuseli udiať, no zanechávajú isté stopy v interiéri mesta. Projekt Time to forget the colour of my eyes (Čas zabudnúť na farbu mojich očí) je trochu romantický, trochu sentimentálny, presne ako spomienky ľudí. Je tiež mysteriózny, melancholický a trochu ponurý, presne ako sú určité momenty v živote, ktoré spájajú život so smrťou, prítomnosť s minulosťou.
