Open Studios Night w/ Asztrid Csatlós & Nóra Szabó

Šopa Gallery / Košice Artist in Residence, Hlavná 40, Košice 9.8.2023 o 18.00

During the summer Open Studios Night you will have the opportunity to meet our newest artists in residence – Asztrid Csatlós and Nóra Szabó. They will introduce themselves in the form of a short artist talk and later they will show you their studios in which you will be able to see their current projects.

Asztrid Csatlós is a Hungarian artist who works mainly with painting. Her work focuses on the correlations between visual arts and natural sciences, between the present, the past and the future, and on the parallels between fiction and utopias. Her works are often polyphonic, and she likes to combine interdisciplinary work with classical painterly thinking. She is currently working on a series titled A Sweet Smell of Putrefaction, which she started working on in 2023 and highlights the phenomenon of Szeged and the dirty roads around the border (refugee crisis, environmental changes, relational systems of globalization).

Nóra Szabó is a Hungarian artist from Debrecen who is currently pursuing her PhD at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest. Szabó focuses on the representation of the human body in the context of technological advances, combining traditional techniques such as plaster casting with digital media such as 3D printing. Her art reflects the hybrid nature of our contemporary existence, in which artificial technologies and organic elements intermingle. Through thought-provoking compositions, Szabó challenges conventional notions of human representation and invites viewers to consider the evolving relationship between humans and technology.

The three-month residency is organized in cooperation with the Budapest Gallery.
The residency program is supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council. Slovak Arts Council is the main partner of this project.
