The trio of Hungarian artists Eva Bubla and the artistic duo Katalin Kortmann-Járay and Karina Mendreczky will open their studios and you can also look forward to a collage making workshop led by Katalin and Karina.
Eva Bubla will present her project Microbial Futures Lab which is a traveling laboratory, a constantly expanding collection of future medicines, treatments, rites and narratives reflecting on the well-being of human and more-than-human lifeforms. The project was further developed with the help of the local audience in Košice.
Katalin Kortmann-Járay and Karina Mendreczky have been collaborating closely since 2019, creating large-scale, walk-through installations—spatial collages—made up of diverse elements. In their work, they combine various techniques and materials such as textiles, photographs, and sculptures crafted from iron, concrete, and clay, to construct metaphorically fragile spaces. By drawing parallels between contemporary animistic perspectives, rooted in the ecological crisis, and their historical and cultural counterparts, they aim to engage with collective memory.
ABOUT WORKSHOP:
The workshop is led by the artist duo Kortmann Jaray Katalin and Mendreczky Karina, currently participating in the KAIR residency. Their work is defined by large-scale, site-specific, immersive installations, drawing inspiration from their original background in printmaking. During the workshop, they revisit graphic techniques, which they blend with their signature mixed-media approach.
Throughout the session, the artists will guide participants in creating unique, personalized collages, enriched with plant motifs, using a variety of techniques.
By combining paper cutouts, photographs, fabric prints, and monotype techniques, participants will be invited to create one-of-a-kind artworks, which they can take home at the end of the event.
The workshop is also suitable for children.
Duration 18:00-20:00 / you can join the workshop at any time during its duration
We look forward to seeing you!
