Erik Šille (SK)
Erik Sille is one of the most significant protagonists of Slovak painting. Amongst his practice as visual artist, his acrylic paintings are identifiable by their meticulous and bold surface structure. With each painting he is telling a story, often featuring comic characters. He is inspired by contemporary everyday visual enviroment: bilboards, advertisement, television, comics, street style and videogames.
During his residency at Youkobo Art Space in Tokio (January-March 2013),Erik will conduct deeper research into Japanese visual culture, a field which has previously had a strong influence on him, going on to reflect his findings in recent work which satirizes natural interventions in industrial production. An exhibition of the work will be held at the end of the residence.
The residency was supported by EU Japan Fest Japan Committee, Minsitry of Culture of Slovak Republic and Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan.
