Susken Rosenthal (GER)
Susken Rosenthal is an artist, curator and art director from Germany. She studied in Berlin, Florence and Los Angeles. She is mainly working with space, architecture and landscape, to create sites of active perception. She uses the basic experience of space experience between spatial ability and spatial perception. By playing with the existing environment and the proportional structure of the space, the view on the familiar situation gets changed.
Her residency in Kosice was based on a research of the particular situation of Kosice in geography and history, strongly present in architecture and public infrastructures. With the help of US steel Kosice, she realized an interactive installation in the public space about contrasts and simultaneity of life in Košice. The piece consists of two metal mirrors placed in two different sites of Kosice, connected by a video interface. The idea of MIRAGE is to connect the outskirts of Košice’s huge panel block areas and the historical center by mirroring, swapping and flipping their realities in order to experience the city as one organism.
