Terrible Twins (LT)

FOAF PROJECT BY TERRIBLE TWINS

Terrible Twins is Ruta Pu and Urte Janus. Originally from Vilnius, Lithuania; currently working in London, where they also got a BA Photography degree. They practice in staged photography, video and installation.

While working between murky zone of conscious and unconscious, dream and reality, Terrible Twins construct fictional worlds. They are questioning if the so called reality is actually that legitimate how people are used or made to believe. One of their main interests is how the information is transmitted and received and how the same information gets distorted or interpreted in many different ways.

During their residency Terrible Twins will play a secret game and will tell a visual story based on mysticism, modern folklore and FOAF* stories found in Slovakia and worldwide.  The project will conist stories heard on the news, told by people or their own inventions, based on subjective observations and interactions as foreigners and strangers.

*FOAF- (abbreviation) friend of a friend, denoting a story or rumor, which has no definite source and cannot be authenticated (Oxford Dictionary)

Terrible Twins took part on the residency in Košice in months April, May and June. It was made possible thanks to the cooperation with Red Gallery in London.

At the end of their residencies, Terrible Twins presented the result of their work on the exhibition called Personae.

„The Personae project involved work with the community of Kosice, in order to gather the local stories, legends and rumours. We took an interest in modern and ancient mythology and the role of the mask in ancient Greek and Roman theatre. Masks enabled the same actor to appear in several different roles and contained the characteristic and social attributes of the role. We followed the tradition to express and adopt personality and story through a mask. The stories collected, later mixed up with personal experiences, memories and associations became a scenario to perform. The face became a mask and life became a surreal theatre, with a touch of irony.“

FOAF PROJEKT OD TERRIBLE TWINS

Terrible Twins predstavujú Ruta Pu a Urte Janus. Pochádzajú z mesta Vilnius v Litve, v súčastnosti pracujú v Londýne, kde zároveň vyštudovali bakalársky stupeň, odbor Fotografia. Sú aktívne v oblasti hranej fotografie, videí a inštalácií.

Popri práci v pochmúrnej zóne vedomého a podvedomého, sna a reality, Terrible Twins vytvárajú fiktívne svety. Pýtajú sa, či takzvaná realita je skutočne to, čo legitimuje, ako sú ľudia využívaní a prinútení veriť. Jedným z ich hlavných záujmov je proces prenosu a prijímania informácie a to, ako tá istá informácia dokáže byť skomolená alebo interpretovaná mnohými rôznymi spôsobmi.

Počas svojej rezidencie budú Terrible Twins hrať svoju tajnú hru a rozprávať vizuálny príbeh založený na mysticizme, modernom folklóre a FOAF* príbehoch nájdených na Slovensku, ale i celom svete. Tento projekt bude pozostávať z príbehov, ktoré budú zachytené v novinách, interpretované alebo povedané ľuďmi, taktiež bude spočívať vo vlastných objavoch ľudí, všetko založené na subjektívnych pozorovaniach a interakciách Terrible Twins ako „zahraničných“ a cudziniek.

*FOAF – (skratka) friend of a friend (priateľ priateľa), označuje príbeh alebo chýr, ktorý nemá žiaden určitý zdroj, a preto nemôže byť zaručený.

Terrible Twins sa zúčastnili rezidencie v Košiciach v mesiacoch apríl, máj a jún. Táto rezidencia sa uskutočnila aj vďaka spolupráci s Red Gallery v Londýne.

Na konci svojej rezidencie prezentovali Terrible Twins výsledky svojej práce na výstave s názvom Personae. Pozrite si fotky tu.
